About

(FY24)

In FY24, the Virginia Office of the Attorney General was awarded an Improving Outcomes grant. OAG will subgrant to the Center for Public Policy Wilder School at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and ImPACT, an organization committed or raising public awareness about human trafficking. The goal of Virginia’s project is to improve outcomes for child and youth victims of trafficking, especially male victims and victims of labor trafficking, by increasing the number of victims identified and increasing the number of victims referred for services. To reach this goal, the Virginia Improving Outcomes team will complete five objectives:  (1) Establish a secretariat-level, state-wide working group committed to ending the trafficking of minors in Virginia; (2) Complete a comprehensive, state-wide landscape and gap analyses of approaches to identifying and assisting trafficked minors in Virginia – with a focus on labor trafficking victims and male victims – that includes actionable data; (3) Expand Virginia’s Human Trafficking Toolkit to reflect outcomes of the research, with an emphasis on improving information and resources for male victims and labor-trafficking; (4) Conduct a pilot that involves training the staff at the Bon Air Juvenile Correctional Facility to identify signs of trafficking and use trauma-informed practices to increase the identification of trafficking victims – particularly male victims and victims of labor trafficking; (5) Hold at least five regional training events throughout the commonwealth to build effective collaboration, increase the knowledge and skills key stakeholders need to identify more minor victims of trafficking – especially male and labor trafficking victims – and more consistently refer them for appropriate services.
